Garbage, Organics and Yard Waste

Waste collection services are provided to residential properties across the city. City services include collection of green bin organics, garbage, leaf and yard waste (including Christmas trees) and pick up of large appliances and metal items. 

Please be advised that the Province of Ontario has introduced a new blue box collection system. As of Jan. 1, 2026, producers of recyclable materials are operationally and financially responsible for residential blue box collection programs across the province. This means producers will oversee the collecting, sorting and recycling of all blue box materials. As part of this transition, the City no longer handles customer service inquiries related to blue boxes or recycling collection. Please direct all inquiries about recycling collection, including missed pickups, collection delays and damaged bins, to Miller Waste Systems – Vaughan’s waste collectors. Please note, the City does not provide municipal waste collection services to industrial, commercial, institutional or mixed-use establishments. Please contact a private company to arrange for waste collection. More information about multi-residential waste collection is available on the City's website.

• Common reasons for a missed collection 
• Materials not set out at 7 a.m. in time for collection
• Acceptable bags or containers over the three-item garbage limit without a paid garbage tag
• Unacceptable materials in the garbage, green bin or leaf and yard waste bins/bags
• Materials placed in oversized or improper containers
• Overweight item/container (45 pounds or 20.5 kilograms is the maximum)
• Overflowing waste containers
• Items hidden or set in/on a snowbank
• Leaf or yard waste container is unmarked, does not have handles and/or lid has not been removed
• Leaf and yard waste bags or containers are wet and soiled and unable to be collected
